Second Karnataka Gold Festival will be arranged by World Gold Council and the Art of Jewellery magazine in Bangalore from April 10 to May 20 2006.

This 40-day exhibition is an attempt to promote gold jewellery and raise its sales.

Strategies to attract customers include lucky draws with a bumper prize of one kilogram gold.

Over five kilograms of gold will also be distributed among 276 lucky winners.

Coupons for the above contest will be given away free with every purchase of worth Rs2000.

'Akshaya Thritiya' which is considered to be the most propitious day of the year to purchase gold in the Hindu calendar, falls on April 30.

Thus, highest sales figures will be expected on this day.

Jewellery sales rose 40 percent in 2005 with gold sales climbing 19 percent each year.

Gold consumption is pegged at 650-700 tons each year while retail sales dropped by 20-30 per cent, he said.
Gold exports in 2003-2004 recorded almost 45 percent growth but that last year increased just 18-20 percent.
