Indian handicrafts exports are expected to rise by around 10 per cent year on year to Rs 23,560 crore in fiscal 2017, driven by surge in demand from new and traditional markets. Demand from countries and regions including the US, Europe, Latin America and Middle East is increasing which is expected to help record a healthy growth in export figures.

Executive director of the Exports Promotion Council for Handicrafts (EPCH) Rakesh Kumar also said that for the April-September 2016 quarter, handicraft exports clocked a growth of 18.25 per cent, from a fiscal ago period to reach Rs 13,005 crore.

A news agency quoted Rakesh Kumar as saying that promotional efforts being undertaken to expand exports would result in exports growing not only in traditional markets but also in emerging markets. (AR)
