Exports of woven handicrafts from the Indonesian island of Bali surged to US$ 2.33 million during January-November 2011, showing a rise of 88 percent year-on-year.

The figure is indicative of a 105.22 percent rise in export volume to 1.83 million units during the first 11 months of 2011, as against exports of 893,810 units during the corresponding period of 2010.

The rise in Bali's woven handicraft exports has been attributed to fresh designs that were liked by overseas buyers.

In 2010, Bali exported woven handicrafts worth US$ 1.53 million.

The good performance of Bali's woven handicraft sector will increase Indonesia's foreign exchange earnings.
