Iran earmarks US$1.5bn to boost handicraft exports

To aid handicraft exporters in the country, Iran has earmarked a sum of US$ 1.5 billion, Iranian Cultural Heritage, Tourism and Handicrafts Organization stated.
 
The sum would be disbursed to the exporters as loans repayable with six percent interest.
 
As per the official reports, the country’s handicraft exports including carpets and rugs, for first quarter of the current Iranian year that commenced on March 20 grew at a year-on-year rate of 276 percent. This percent is expected to grow to 300 by close of the year.
 
During last Iranian year, the country exported about US$ 500 million worth of handicrafts, including handwoven carpets. This is expected to rise to US$ 1.5 billion this year.
 
Carpet and rug weaving, Persian embroidery, Termeh or special table clothes and Zaridozi are some of the handicrafts exported by Iran.
