The Indian Handicrafts & Gifts Fair (Spring) 2006 held at India Expo Centre & Mart, Greater Noida from 16th – 20th February has been successful in making business worth Rs.1200 crores.
For more than 4750 visitors comprising of overseas importers, wholesalers departmental stores, chain stores, buying, agents, super market and distributors from USA, UK, Germany, France, Italy, Spain, Netherlands, Greece, Portugal, Cyprus, Israel, Japan, Hong Kong Australia, New Zealand, Scandinavia, South Africa and Middle East, it has been a great and fruitful experience.
In addition, the visit of 67 member delegations from Middle East, mainly from Jordan, Kuwait, Iraq, Yemen & Palestine representing the Federation of Arab Businessman (FAB) and the representatives from A.S. Watsons Group, Hong Kong with market network in 35 countries, has been the high point of the expo.
The Watson Group has 2000 stores in Asia, AS Watson is also considered to be Asia's Wal-Mart. According to Mr Hans Van Hattem, Global Sourcing Director, AS Watson International Buying, Hong Kong and Mr. Marcus Schlilch, Commercial Manager –Toys, Sports & Outdoor, about 20-25 percent of their textiles and fabrics such as table ware can be sourced from India as the products displayed at the fair were of excellent quality.
So is the case with embellishments, which were found to be very contemporary. As such the Watson group has set their sourcing from India @ 5.8 percent of their purchases.They apprised EPCH with their plan for setting up their Sourcing Center in New Delhi.
