The Puno Regional Government in Peru will initiate a project for improvement of production and productivity of the region’s textile crafts on August 29.

The textile crafts project is aimed at providing technical assistance to thousands of artisans in Peru’s Puno province by helping them improve production and introduce new innovations in design and finish, hand-knitting, yarn making, and weaving on loom, according to a government statement.

Once the production of textile handicrafts increases, the project will focus on increasing the ability of the craftsmen to explore both national and international markets and thereby increase their income.

Initially, textile craftsmen in Melgar district will benefit from the project, and subsequently the project would be extended to Nunoa, Santa Rosa and Ayaviri Orurillo districts.
