'Handmade India', an All India Handicrafts Expo organized by Textile Ministry's Office of the Development Commissioner (Handicrafts) will be held concurrently with the Asian Development Bank (ADB) Annual Meet in Hyderabad.
A release informed that the handicrafts fair would be open to ADB delegates from tomorrow to May 6 2006, and thereafter, would be open for the public during May 7-9, 2006.
About 150 craftsmen will participate together with Shilpa Gurus and Master Craftsmen; a majority of them awardees exhibiting merchandise at 100 stalls erected at the site.
The tents have been fascinatingly designed under a rural theme where crafts persons would be give live demonstrations of their skills.
Outstanding crafts on display and for sale would include woodcarvings, textiles and varied embroidery traditions, metal ware, terracotta from Bengal and Tamil Nadu among other works.
Metal casting, grass, reeds, cane and bamboo from the North East, jewellery, traditional painting, wood inlay, tribal handicrafts, leather ware, carpets, dokra from Chattisgarh and Orissa, will be also be displayed.
Castings, including famous Tanjore bronzes, costume jewellery, lacquer ware, stone carvings and various others will be exhibited separately.
'Lepakshi' would exhibit its range of craft from Andhra Pradesh.
Ajay Kumar, Additional Development Commissioner of Handicrafts said, “Delegates at the ADB meet taking place at the Hyderabad International Convention Centre (HICC) would be able to suitably examine the diverse handicrafts from across the country, under one roof.”
It is an opportunity to display craft ethnicity and shimmering artistic legacy of the country to a diverse audience from all parts of the world.
