Local body conducts flash raids over handicraft sales outlets in Kashmir

As the tourist season takes on full swing in Kashmir, the illegal trade of handicraft products also rapidly increases.
Recognizing this issue, the officers from handicraft department have joined with the local tourist police to inspect the dealings and watch-out for any malpractice that takes place regarding the Kashmiri handicrafts.
Development Officer of the region conducted flash raid on the Slukara hawkers in Dal Lake on June 27, 2006, till wee hours and confiscated a large quantity of non-Kashmiri and sub-standard products that were on sale.
The guilty party were forced to pay a fine of Rs4,250.
This aggressive and strict move has been applauded by the talented creators of the authentic handicrafts as well as the common people.
