There is a need for developing the handloom industry in Imphal so that colorful and exquisite handloom products of the state could reach the world market.
The District Industries Centre (DIC) has been motivating unemployed youths towards setting up small scale industries as the Imphal state has no scope for establishing large scale industry.
DIC Imphal East, continues to function since its opening in 1998 and manages to train young entrepreneurs from time to time motivating unemployed youth to establish small scale industry of their own, apart from motivating women to initiate and pursue the cooperative movement.
At the Porompat unit, DIC has neither building of its own nor land to construct its own office complex and is left with only 23 staff including the manager, facing hardships to deliver their best services.
