Don't get surprised to see the seal carrying name and origin of the handicraft maker in Sarawak-made handicraft.
These seals will help distinguish original from the fakes and to protect local craft industry.
Most of the shops in the country sell handicrafts imported from Indonesia. About 80 percent of them are imported from Indonesia as it is cheaper compared to those produced locally.
Sarawak Tourism Federation is also trying to encourage Sarawak handicraft by introducing Hornbill Tourism Awards.
Handicraft shops willing to take part in this award should at least stock 85 percent of its collections with Sarawak handicraft.
