Kachchi weavers recover from disaster

After recovering from devastating earthquake in 2001, Kachchi weavers expressed hope for development by visiting Delhi.

Kachchh is now gaining attention for textile crafts of the region. Earlier, about 2,500 weavers used to work in the industry, after the earth quake it employs only 800 workers.

Some of the workers in the industry were also engaged in the exhibition called Kachchhism held at Delhi.

Kachchh is not only famous for weaving and embroidery in the world but it is also known for jewellery-making.

Toady traditional clothes like ludi and the pacheri are replaced by products like shawls, jackets, cushion covers, fabric etc.

The reason behind the success of Kachchhi patterns are result of a strong sense of identity weavers of the region enjoy.
