Tamilnadu Handicrafts Development Corporation Limited (THDCL) is planning to set up permanent exhibition centres under the 'Urban HAAT' scheme of the Governemnt.
The centres, to be located at Mahabalipuram near Chennai and at Kanyakumari, will offer opportunity for local craftsmen and artisans to produce, showcase as well as sell their creations to the consumers directly.
Each of theses centres would require investment of around Rs2 crores, of which Development Commission, Handicrafts under the Ministry of Textiles would contribute Rs1.4 crores.
Rest of the amount and the land will be provided by the Tamilnadu Government.
