Handicraft sector can play a vital role in boosting the economy of any nation. To gain from current scenario, the Moroccan Government has decided to aid the ailing industry.

A new ministerial department will be set up soon, that will take care of effective marketing policy targeting potential countries of US, Russia and Gulf states.

The export of Moroccan handicrafts reached nearly 700 million dirhams last year and the Government aims to raise the sale in domestic and international market to nearly 24 billion dirhams by 2015.

The authorities will provide professional training to artisans, along with it, they would encourage craftsmen to participate in various exhibitions world over, to learn about latest trends in the global market and gain from it.

The Moroccan craft consists of Basket weaving, stone studded silver jewellary, leather and brass artifacts which are renowned globally.

Presently, more than 2 million people are associated with the handicraft industry and it is high time that some serious measures are taken to bring back the confidence of craftsmen who are slowly shifting to other sectors.
