Seal of excellence for handcraft products proposed

An artisan's workshop was recently held in the capital city of Islamabad, by Lok Virsa, (National Institute of Folk and Traditional Heritage) which works towards preserving the living folk and traditional culture of Pakistan.

It has a large display of embroidered costumes, jewellery, woodwork, metalwork and block printing. Lok Virsa Heritage Reference Library is equipped with resource data on arts and crafts. Among its many activities it helps in the development of handicraft products.

At the workshop it was announced that Lok Virsa, is initiating a seal of excellence on the pattern of the UNESCO seal for quality handicraft products. This is expected to help the poor artisans in promoting products carrying the seal and also help them economically.

This initiative is also expected to give a boost to exports of handicrafts since the products will be certified for its quality and consumers will not hesitate in purchasing them in international markets.

Lok Virsa will also conduct training workshops to help the artisans improve the quality of their products and improve the product designs. The organization will also render help in marketing of these products which will ultimately help in uplifting of the craftsmen.
