North Eastern Handicrafts and Handlooms Development Corporation has organized a 15-day crafts festival under the aegis of Union Ministry of Textiles. The crafts festival aims at promotional activities of handicrafts of North Eastern States.

It would facilitate the overall development of handicrafts and handlooms in the North Eastern Region especially in terms of credit, raw materials, designs, tool and equipment besides market outlets.

Also, it would prove to be a platform for the craftsmen to exchange their ideas, understand the implements and motif and collect new ideas, said Mr. R Narayanan, Festival Coordinator.

More than 50 craftsmen from North Eastern States would launch new products and designs in the festival for trials, which will not leave any space for middlemen in the handicraft trade and help the craftsmen.

The festival is expected to do a business of Rs 1.5 million, where a wide range of products like cane and bamboo crafts, woven handloom textiles, embroidery, tie and dye textiles and art metal ware are on display.
