With Singapore and South Korea registering the Nepali Pashmina trademark, the total number of countries where Pashmina has been registered as a trademark has reached six.

Prior to these two countries, Pashmina already had registered its trademark in Norway, Australia, Switzerland and Japan.

Besides these six countries Pashmina has also registered its trademark in the European Union (EU).

According to the Nepal Pashmina Industries Association (NPIA), it has also completed formalities for registration of trademark in United States, China, Canada, Hong Kong, Thailand, India, New Zealand, Brazil and Mexico.

EU, United States and United Kingdom being the leading buyers of Nepali Pashmina products are amongst the list of countries where NPIA applied for trademark registration and the same has been approved.

NPIA has also officially stepped in the domestic market with the brand name Chyangra Pashmina. In domestic market, NPIA members will have permit to use the trademark. Together with registration of the brand, NPIA also intends to check the market of fake Pashmina, both domestically as well as internationally.

Exports of fake Pashmina have risen owing to factors like lack of public awareness and nonexistence of trademark. Customers are being deceived by fake Pashmina with inferior quality, which is priced at a lower rate than original Pashmina.
