The Deputy Director of the Trade Promotion Agency under the Ministry of Industry and Trade's Mr. Do Kim Lang stated that though Japan is among the largest Vietnamese handicraft importer, Vietnam can further improve its handicraft sales to Japan.

Pertaining to this, he appealed Vietnamese handicraft producers to keep on studying Japanese customs and market demands.

Mr. Lang was addressing a conference, wherein he opined that priority should be given to quality improvement and design diversification to deal with increasing competition for Vietnamese arts and handicrafts.

The country must export handicrafts according to the design standards of Japanese consumers, if it aims to beat Japanese market. Moreover, Vietnamese designers should improve their skills. And the handicraft units have to take care of delivery deadlines, quality of products and import regulations fulfillment.

This year, Vietnam targets to export US $150 million worth of arts and handicrafts to Japan. But, this may fulfill just 4 percent of Japan's demand.
