Co-optex holds interactive session on vintage kanjeevaram

The Tamil Nadu Handloom Weavers' Co-operative Society (Co-optex) held an interactive session recently on vintage Kanjeevaram discussing sarees that are over five decades old and the contemporary version of the silk sarees, according to media reports.

The event coordinated by textile enthusiasts Jaishree Iyer and Sreemathy Mohan of 'W3. Women Weave World'—an online forum discussing textile and weaves across India—had many weavers and designers speaking about different varieties of Kanjeepuram sarees like Mupaggam, Paayadi, Vaira oosi, Thuttripoo, and Muthukattam.

An exhibition of silk sarees developed by Co-optex in colours and designs made fashionable by singer MS Subbulakshmi was the highlight of the event.

Co-optex was established in 1935 and has a long and rich tradition in handloom history that dates back over 80 years. Co-optex has a network of 200 showrooms spread all over India with an annual turnover of around Rs 1,000 crore. (HO)
