Product sales of India’s Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC) in 2018 rose by 32 per cent to ₹2,510 crore ($358.6 million), boosted by the increase in fabric production by at least 40 per cent, according to KVIC chairman Vinai Kumar Saxena. Khadi fabric production rose by 38.30 million square metres (sq m) to 142 million sq m from 103 million sq m.

In fiscal 2017-18, the sale of khadi grew to ₹2,510 crore, which was 26 per cent higher than the ₹2,007 crore cloaked in the previous fiscal, Saxena said.

KVIC products were exhibited in over 10 different countries in 2018 and was the theme-line during the national day event of Montenegro, he said.

KVIC expects to touch a sales target of ₹5,000 crore ($689 million) by the end of fiscal 2018-19, he added. (DS)
