India’s Telangana state government is improving the website of its State Handloom Weavers Cooperative Society (TSCO) to boost online sales of handloom products, according to handloom and textiles director Shailaja Ramaiyer. The website is being improved by having better categorisation, indicating discounts, showcasing all handloom categories, she said.

The modified website would be showcased on August 7 on the occasion of National Handloom Day, a news agency report quoted Ramaiyer as saying.

The step was initiated as it was felt there is a much better market for the handloom sector via e-commerce, she said.

TSCO's franchise business model would also be launched on August 7 and agreements would be signed with the franchisees on that day, she said. There are about 46 TSCO showrooms at present.

In the evening of August 7, the department of handlooms and textiles will host a fashion show of traditional and contemporary handlooms, she added. (DS)
