On the back of the success achieved from a store selling top-quality handlooms in Chennai, the Tamil Nadu government has proposed to set up more such exclusive stores across the country.

The store in Chennai is averaging a daily turnover of Rs 100,000. Looking at the success, the government proposes to set up more such stores across India, which will stock first-rate quality handlooms.

“Rather than concentrating on exports, these stores will help handloom weavers to generate better returns, said Handloom Minister”, Dr Sundaraj.

He also revealed that the Tamil Nadu government would set up nine textile parks including those in Kancheepuram and Karur, which would be announced in the up-coming budget.
