Out of the total production of handicrafts worth about Rs. 300 billion, around Rs.170 billion worth of handicrafts are exported.

In 2011-12, India’s handloom sector produced over 6,930 million sq m of fabric and exported fabric worth Rs. 25.03 billion.

Indian handicrafts have a meagre share of less than two percent as against China's 30 percent in the entire international market. However, the Indian handicrafts sector is definitely showing improvement, which was evident in its growth of around 20 percent in exports last year despite the ongoing economic depression that has engulfed the US and EU.
