The government of the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh would be setting up a new Rs. 350 million handloom institute in Krishna district of the state, said Indian Minister of Textiles K Sambasiva Rao.

The Minister announced the setting up of the new institute during the inauguration of a Jamdani saree weaving training program, under the integrated skill development scheme in the Kappaladoddi village of Guduru Mandal in Krishna district, reports The Economic Times quoting PTI.

The Minister of Textiles said that the Rs. 350 million All India Handloom Technology Institute would be set up in the District Administrative Headquarters of Machilipatnam, in Krishna district.

The Central Government has sanctioned Rs. 450 million subsidies for the handloom weavers of the Siricilla town in Karimnagar district of the state, he added.

During his visit to the state, the Minister of Textiles also inaugurated a handloom exhibition in Pedana town of Krishna district, as well as laid the foundation stone for the construction of a Common Production Centre costing Rs. 30 million in the town.
