The Jharkhand State Khadi and Village Industries Board is planning to set up six khadi parks in the state to generate employment as well as to promote khadi products made from hand-spun and hand-woven cloth, Board chairman Jainandu said, reports Business Standard quoting PTI.

The integrated khadi parks will have facilities to carry on all manufacturing activities under one roof. The activities include processing of raw material, washing and dyeing, designing, cutting, stitching, branding and packaging of khadi clothing items.

The construction work for one such khadi park has already begun at Kharswan, in Seraikela-Kharswan district. This park is scheduled to be inaugurated on October 2 this year, coinciding with the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, Mr. Jainandu said.

The Kharswan khadi park would initially function on an area of 2,000 sq ft, and then it would be extended to 10,000 sq ft. The park would also have a shop where various khadi garments produced in the park would be sold.

The other khadi parks will be established in Tilaiya (Koderma district), Hazaribagh, Daltongunj (Palamau), and Rajnagar (Seraikela-Kharswan).

Mr. Jainandu said the Board produces apparel for men, women and kids, including some under ‘Johar’ brand name. Seeing the growing demand for khadi products, the Board has purchased latest equipment for designing and imparting training to villagers. It is now focusing on proper packaging to increase customer base.
