The government of Indonesia would monitor the influx of foreign-made batik goods in domestic market, in order to safeguard intellectual property rights of Indonesian people, as well as to protect both, local and international markets of Indonesian batik items.
Rising interest of Indonesian and international buyers in traditional textiles has helped swell up the export of Indonesian batik. It has also gained popularity in Africa ever since it had been introduced by the South African leader Mr. Nelson Mandela.
It has been expected that batik exports will keep on mounting further. During 2004-2008, Indonesian batik exports experienced escalating trend except in the year 2005, when batik exports slipped to US $12.43 million from $34.2 million generated in 2004.
Batik textiles contributed around $32.27 million to country's overall export revenue, in 2008.
United States, Belgium, France, United Kingdom and Germany are among the key markets of Indonesian batik, which was recognized as the world cultural heritage, by UNESCO in October 2009.
