Gadwal saree has acquired Geographical Indication (GI) certificate and currently appears in the list of patented products. GI certification is conferred on those items which are exclusive and region-specific.
NABARD's regional unit supported the registration process for GI status by approving a fund of Rs 350,000 to the handloom and textile department of the State.
Apart from the Gadwal sarees, Dharamavaram, Uppada, and Jamdhani sarees have also received the support of NABARD for GI registration.
