American design company West Elm has collaborated with Bolé Road Textiles to launch a new collection that includes rugs, bed runners and indoor/outdoor pillows, featuring bright hues and bold patterns that couple traditional Ethiopian hand-woven artistry with modern design.

“The concept for this collection was Pan-African coast, I pulled inspiration from coastal towns like Dakar and Accra, as well as African designers I admire,” said designer and founder of Bolé Road Textiles, Hana Getachew. “I looked to several forms of weaving craft, including Ethiopian textiles, then layered colour, pattern and texture together to capture the vibrant spirit.”

Ethiopia-born Getachew founded Bolé Road Textiles to bring her love of Ethiopian handwoven fabrics and her career in interior design together. The textiles are hand-spun, dyed and woven by artisans in Ethiopia with meticulous attention to detail, the two companies said in a joint media release.

“This collaboration means that homes around the country will have Ethiopian-made pieces in them,” added Getachew. “It’s why I do what I do: to share Ethiopian artistry and craft with the world.”

Bolé Road Textiles x West Elm collection is available online.
