Japan's towel imports increase in May

Japan’s imports of towels leaped to 6.712 tons in May this year, showing a year-on-year rise of 5.2 percent, according to the statistics released by the Japanese Ministry of Finance.
 
The value of towels imported by Japan during the month increased by 0.9 percent year-on-year to 5,271 million yen.
 
The volume of towel imports from China declined by 0.1 percent year-on-year to 4,691 tons during the month, while their value grew by 1.5 percent to 4.059 million yen.
 
During the month, Japanese towel imports from India shoot up 8.2 times to 264 tons, while their value jumped 5.6 fold to 162 million yen.
 
Volume-wise, Japan’s towel imports fell 4.1 percent year-on-year to 29,897 tons during January-May 2012 period, while in terms of value, the imports dipped 5.9 percent to 23,418 million yen.
