Soft furnishings invade hotels in Middle East

Soft furnishings, which were once restricted to fabric for sofas, curtains and bedspreads, are now making inroads into hotels in Middle East in the form of throws, decorative headboards, drapes for four poster beds, leather floor, wall tiles etc.

Soft furnishing patterns are slightly weather-dependent and lighter pastels are all-time favourite in the Gulf as they are fade resistant.

Many hotels prefer animal prints such as leopard, cheetah and tiger for adorning upholstery, accessories and larger accent pieces.

Leather, a popular upholstery cover, is now being used for an accent to beds and other wooden pieces. Leather walls make any interior look luxurious and unique.

The decorative fabrics with mixed weaves of cotton that are soft to touch, are ideal for use in upholstery, cushions, curtains or tablecloths and are also easy to clean.

Warps & Wefts' brands, Pollack has launched a wide range of new fabrics, including four extra-wide window fabrics and 22 upholstery designs. Hang Ten, a new window fabric, combines waves and horizontal stripes in complimentary colours.

The hand-woven silk textiles are ideal for hotel suites and lobby areas, boutique hotels, resorts and spas.

The combination of bold designs with varied touch sensations is a recurring theme in most of the major summer collections.

While colour, pattern and texture trends may come and go, fabrics that are easy to care for and fire resistant are here to stay always in fashion.
