Futons, a thin mattress of tufted cotton or similar material, placed on a floor or on a raised, foldable frame, once considered as a poor man's couch, got a complete make over.

Now, Futons are making quite an impact in the home furnishings industry. They can be found in guest rooms, TV rooms and even in living rooms as unconventional sleeper sofas.

Futons variety includes front-loading or regular types with frames of wood or metal in styles that embrace the floor or rise above.

Mattresses can be stuffed with cotton, foam, polyester, springs or a combination of the four.

Futon buyers choose covers of washable cotton, denim or even leather or a removable cover, which are attached with zippers or buttons and are easier to maintain.
