Despite much hard sell by sellers, pillows stuffed with herbal remedies are likely to be harmful for infants, informed Truong Viet Binh, Director of the Viet Nam Academy of Traditional Medicine.

As per owners of a shop that sells goods for infants, pillows stuffed with herbal remedies can help keep mosquitoes away, prevent babies from perspiration and eventually help them go to sleep.

This vendor further added that, in the aforesaid pillows, besides cotton wool, there is presence of huong nhu (holy basil) and ngai cuu (absinthe), which is considered to be good for both babies and adults. But yet, customers have lodged complaints against the pillows.

More so experts said that, pillows stuffed with herbal medicines are less likely to have the effect as told by the shop owners.

Binh informed that, although herbal medicines were good for curing diseases, but if people use the wrong ingredients and dosage, they could turn harmful, especially for infants who already have weak resistance power.

Further more, Binh also added that, making use of pillows with medicinal herbs, whose origin and ingredients were not clear is fatal. As if the herbs have higher quantity of essential oils, it can result in to disturbance in the body's circulation.

When children make use of such pillows for a longer duration, their perspiration is absorbed by the herbs, which then causes mould. These mould later lead to allergies, causing trouble for infants to sleep peacefully, informed Binh.
