0.2% rise estimated in UK monthly production output in May 2024: ONS

UK monthly production output was estimated to have risen by 0.2 per cent in May this year following an unrevised fall of 0.9 per cent in April, primarily due to a 0.4-per cent rise in manufacturing output, according to the Office of National Statistics (ONS).

The monthly rise in manufacturing output in May saw increases in seven of its 13 sub-sectors.

A decline of 1.9 per cent was noted in electricity and gas output.

The largest negative contribution to manufacturing growth in May came from manufacture of transport equipment, which fell by 0.7 per cent, an ONS release said.

Production output for the three months to May 2024 was flat at 0 per cent, compared with the three months to February 2024; manufacturing fell by 0.3 per cent during the period.
