China's power consumption up 7% YoY in Apr; generation up 3.1% YoY

China's electricity consumption recorded robust expansion in April this year, with power use climbing by 7 per cent year on year (YoY) to 741.2 billion kilowatt-hours (kWh), according to the National Energy Administration.

Power consumed by primary and secondary industries went up by 10.5 per cent and 6.2  per cent YoY respectively. Power used by the tertiary sector went up 10.8 per cent.

The country's power use rose by 9 per cent to nearly 3.08 trillion kWh in the first four months this year.

Power generation of the country’s major electricity production enterprises, meanwhile, went up by 3.1 per cent YoY in April.

Total power output of these firms reached 690.1 billion kWh last month, according to the National Bureau of Statistics.

The output of solar power soared by 21.4 per cent YoY, while that for hydropower rose by 21 per cent, a state-controlled media outlet reported.

The output of thermal power and nuclear power climbed by 1.3 per cent and 5.9 per cent YoY respectively.
