France's manufacturing output rises 1.4% in May 2023: Insee

France's manufacturing industry output witnessed a surge for the month of May 2023, according to the National Institute of Statistics and Economic Studies (Insee). Manufacturing production increased by 1.4 per cent, following a 0.6 per cent rise in the previous month. The whole industry also experienced growth, with a rise of 1.2 per cent after a previous increase of 0.8 per cent.

The production of textiles, wearing apparel, leather, and related products saw a decline over the month, shrinking by 2.9 per cent following a prior increase of 5.1 per cent, as per Insee.

Moreover, the other manufacturing industries noted a boost in output during May, growing by 1 per cent following an increase of 0.3 per cent in the previous month.

The output from March to May 2023 was higher than the same period last year. The manufacturing industry observed an increase of 2.1 per cent, and the whole industry saw a rise of 1.5 per cent.

Insee also noted a slight downward revision for the manufacturing index's evolution between March and April 2023. It fell by 0.1 points to 0.6 per cent, instead of the initially reported 0.7 per cent. The index evolution for the whole industry remained unchanged at 0.8 per cent after rounding.
