German business confidence rises for 3rd consecutive month in April

Businesses across Germany have expressed increased satisfaction with their current operations and are showing more optimistic expectations for the future.

In the manufacturing sector, although the index has risen, the outlook remains mixed. Companies reported more optimistic expectations, signalling a shift towards less pessimistic views about the future. However, assessments of the current situation have deteriorated, with order books continuing to shrink and no anticipated increase in production in the near term, as per ifo.

The trade sector also saw an improvement in the business climate index. While overall business expectations in this sector have become markedly better, they remain generally pessimistic. Companies reported a slight decrease in satisfaction with their current business state, with the wholesale sector primarily driving this sentiment. On a positive note, retailers experienced a sharp improvement in business conditions.
