The number of German companies planning to raise prices in the upcoming months has increased, according to latest figures by the ifo Institute. The ifo price expectations index climbed to 19.7 points in December, a significant rise from 18.1 points in November. This increase reverses a trend observed since August 2023, when price expectations hit a temporary low at 14.5 points. In the manufacturing sector, a similar pattern is emerging, with more companies intending to increase their prices. The balance in this sector rose to 3.6 points in December, up from 2.6 points in the previous month.
“This means the decline in inflation rates is likely to stall for the time being,” said Timo Wollmershauser, head of forecasts at ifo.
