Business sentiment in Germany has improved with the business climate index rising to 91.1 points in February 2023, up from 90.1 points in January 2023. However, assessments of the current situation were slightly less positive, as per a report by the ifo Institute for Economic Research.

The German economy is gradually working its way out of a period of weakness; expectations in particular were brighter. In manufacturing, the index rose to its highest level since May 2022 due to the companies’ notably improved expectations. Manufacturers assessed their current business as a little worse and received fewer new orders, according to the ifo Business Survey.

In trade, the index rose once again. Expectations in particular were less sceptical. Businesses were also more satisfied with their current situation. Wholesalers and retailers are getting over last year’s collapse in sentiment.
