Germany's manufacturing material shortages ease in Aug: ifo Institute

In a positive development for German manufacturing, material shortages have decreased, with only 24.4 per cent of companies reporting shortages in August 2023, a decrease from 29.5 per cent in July, according to the latest survey from the ifo Institute.

Marking a significant milestone, the number of companies facing supply issues has dipped below 50 per cent across all industries for the first time since July 2021. In many sectors, this figure has retreated below the long-term average.

Diving deeper into specific industries, 20.8 per cent of businesses in the manufacturing of wearing apparel sector experienced supply bottlenecks. Meanwhile, the textile manufacturing sector fared considerably better, with only 9.5 per cent of companies reporting material shortages, as per the survey.
