Indian govt to set up textile park in Uttarakhand

A textile park, three textile skill training centres and two sheep and wool conservation centres are among the new sops announced by the Central Government for the north Indian state of Uttarakhand.

The textile park would be set up in Udhamsingh Nagar district, Union Commerce, Industry and Textiles Minister Mr. Anand Sharma said. The Centre has sanctioned a total of 40 textile parks across the country under the 11th Five-Year Plan, the Minister informed.

The Central Government would contribute 40 percent of the total cost of the proposed textile park, which is to be set up with an estimated investment of Rs. 1 billion.

Besides the textile park, the Indian Government would also establish three textile skill training centres in the state at a cost of Rs. 1 billion.

The three centres would be set up at Roorkee, Haldwani and Dehradun over the next five years and they would have a capacity to train nearly 15,000 people per year, Mr. Sharma said.

While the Central Government would bear 75 percent of the total cost of skill training centres, the state government would bear the remaining amount.

Two sheep and wool conservation centres would also be set up in Rudraprayag and Uttarakashi districts of the state.
