Large-scale textile enterprises in China achieved an 11 percent year-on-year growth in both production and sales during the first half of 2012, in the midst of slowing demand in both domestic and export markets.

During the six-month period, the Chinese textile industry continued to enhance its brand image and technological applications.

Although the development of Chinese textile industry was positive during the period, its production, domestic sales, exports and profits growth rates fell compared to the same period of last year.

For example, China’s textile and apparel exports rose by 2.21 percent year-on-year during January-June 2012 period, compared to growth rate of 25.4 percent year-on-year growth rate achieved during the same period last year.

According to the China Textile Industry Association, under the present circumstances, China’s textile industry should pay attention to three things during the remaining months of 2012.

The association said the textile industry should watch export situation closely and analyze the reasons for decline in its exports. Secondly, since cotton spinning and chemical fibre industries have great impact on operations of textile industries, they should ensure their stable development. Lastly, the industry should rectify development imbalances among various regions, industries and enterprises.
