Spanish textile output decreases in July

The production of Spanish textile industry registered a 6.7 percent year-on-year fall in July 2012, according to the figures released by the National Statistics Institute (INE).
 
The decline in July textile production is more than the decrease of 3.3 percent year-on-year and 0.1 percent year-on-year posted in months of May and June, respectively.
 
The 6.7 percent dip in textile production during July was much more than the 2.6 percent year-on-year fall in overall industrial production in Spain during the month.
 
The production of apparel sector in Spain also fell by 6.1 percent year-on-year in July. In June this year, Spanish garment sector had recorded a 2.7 percent year-on-year growth in output.
 
Among the various textile and garment sub-sectors, the production of fur articles decreased by 31.1 percent year-on-year in July 2012.
 
Similarly, yarn, fabric and woven garment production fell by 11.5 percent, 8.4 percent and 8.6 percent respectively, compared to July 2011.
 
However, production of knitted apparels grew by 24.5 percent in July 2012, compared to the same month last year.
