The output of textile sector in Spain has risen sharply by 12.6 percent year-on-year in August 2012, the biggest increase in the last couple of years, according to the figures released by the National Statistics Institute (INE).

The surge in Spanish textile production in August can be termed as a turnaround for the sector, as it has come after ten consecutive months of decline in textile output, beginning from October 2011.

The largest increase in production was recorded in the manufacturing of other textiles, which surged by 19.1 percent year-on-year, followed by yarn production which rose by 15.6 percent year-on-year.

However, the output of garment sub-sector declined by 15.2 percent year-on-year in August, compared to a fall of 5.8 percent and 3.5 percent in July and June 2012, respectively.
