The knitting sector in China has developed at a fast pace during the past few years. Product development and technology improved greatly, so as labour productivity, and industry structure underwent a drastic change.

Last year, while the growth rate of China’s knitting industry slowed down, other indicators like output, income and sales grew.

In 2011, large-scale knitting enterprises sold goods worth 583.698 billion yuan, showing a year-on-year growth of 21.72 percent, which was nearly five times higher than the sales achieved in 2003.

Currently, the knitting sector accounts for around half of total apparel production in China.

During the Eleventh Five-Year Plan period, 13.5 million tons of fibres were used by the knitting industry, accounting for about 33 percent of the total fibre consumption of the entire textile industry in China.

During the period, knitted garments contributed about 55 percent of the total apparel production in the country. Similarly, knit goods accounted for 15 percent of home textiles and 20 percent of all industrial textiles produced in the country.
