The report estimates the value of man-made fibre produced in the country to fall by 11.1 percent year-on-year in 2012 to NT$ 144.9 billion, while fabric output value is likely to plummet by 7.5 percent to NT$ 289.2 billion.

However, a rise of 2.5 percent year-on-year is foreseen in the production value of readymade garment and accessories sector, which may rise to NT$ 25.9 billion.

During third quarter of the current year, contribution of man-made fibres, fabrics and readymade garments to Taiwan’s overall textile output value stood at 30.2 percent, 63.4 percent and 6.4 percent, respectively.

The production value of man-made fibre decreased 7.42 percent quarter-on-quarter and 15 percent year-on-year to NT$ 33.83 billion during the three-month period. Similarly, fabric output plummeted by 3.5 percent from previous quarter and 5 percent from previous year to NT$ 71.2 billion.

However, rising sales of comparatively low-cost apparels induced a 24.5 percent quarter-on-quarter rise in the output value of readymade garments, which increased to NT$ 7.2 billion during July-September 2012, but on a year-on-year basis, garment production too fell by 1.6 percent.
