Chinese textile industry is facing new problems and it requires transformation and upgradation of industrial equipments and techniques, the Chief engineer of Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, Zhu Hongren said in a meeting held between the representatives of the Government and the textile industry.

The meeting focused on the demand and supply trends of cotton, wool, hemp, chemical fibres and textile raw materials. The development and application of new fiber materials in the industries was also discussed.

The president of China Textile Industry Association, Wang Tiankai, pointed out that currently Chinese textile industry needs to accelerate the transformation and upgrading, strengthen the supply of raw material, eliminate constraints of procuring raw material, focus on promoting the domestic cotton management system, and create opportunities to promote the industry.

Mr. Tiankai also pointed out that the Chinese textile enterprises are facing high cotton prices and the import of poor quality cotton further increases their problems.

He added that the small and medium enterprises in the cotton textile industry are facing difficulties due to high cost of upgradation and only large cotton textile enterprises are able to break even.
