Mr. Iddrisu urged the members of the Board to implement strategic plans to increase the efficiency of the textile mill by garnering investment from the private sector to achieve full capacity production.

The Minister said VSTL has potential to create employment for youth in the region, earn foreign exchange, and also promote Made-in-Ghana products.

VSTL was shutdown in 2005, owing to financial difficulties, and was revamped by the Government in 2007. The company injected GH¢300 million into its operations with the help of the Export Development and Investment Fund.

Mr. Evans Agyagbo, Acting Technical Director of VSTL, said the textile mill is currently operating at 25 percent of its production capacity, and hoped that the company would soon attain 75 percent capacity.

At full capacity, working for 24 hours a day, the VSTL plant at Juapong is capable of turning out 65,000 yards of grey baft in a day, or 26 million yards in a year.
