At an expanded session of the cabinet of ministers, President Niyazov scolded officials for delay in reaping cotton crops as they were careless, incompetent and lazy. He held provincial and district Governors responsible for unsatisfactory rate of cotton harvest.
He stated that during his recent visits to Dashoguz and Lebap provinces, local leaders had assured efficient cotton harvest but they were unable to keep their word. He added that mismanagement spoils the situation despite the state fulfilling all needs of farmers.
Niyazov warned that laws of Turkmenistan forbid taking services from state workers, soldiers and students for reaping cotton, and he directed deputy heads of the cabinet of ministers to get such practices discontinued.
He criticized the head of agricultural joint stock company strongly. He blamed ministers of rural development and water management for not following agro technical standards, wasting water resources and reckless management.
Niyazov ordered the officials to work with responsibility henceforth.
