Pakistan will not be able to make up to its trade target if it fails to fight against major issues like quality control, human resource development, branding and building up of skill in the textile and manufacturing unit.
Textile exports of Pakistan have remained way below the average or even the expected and although the discriminatory dumping duty on bed linen may have valid grounds, experts believe that there are other crucial factors causing the loss of international markets.
In the first quarter of 2007, exports recorded a growth of a mere 4.8 percent, which was much lower compared to the statistics of the previous year.
Even though cotton made apparel and garments showed a negative growth, exports of inorganic chemicals and leather made products did very well. Nonetheless the overall trade has been disappointing.
Experts from the industry have suggested a total transformation of export policy and a rearrangement of its basic industries to ensure that in the years to come, Pakistan textile industry can see a better trade prospective.
