About 18,000 workers of over 500 textile mills came back to the work after four days as they went on work abstention in protest against the torture of their fellowmen by a mill owner.

An indefinite work stoppage by the workers halted production at most of the textile mills for four days. The work stoppage for the four days hampered the production of nearly 1.5 lakh yards of fabrics.

Only after the assurance from Narsingdi Municipality Mayor, Mr. Lokman Hossain, to investigate the matter, the mill workers got back to work. The Mayor gave this assurance in a meeting with worker's leaders.

After an incident of torture on a worker, the workers of a textile mill lodged a complaint with the owners' association and as their demand went unheeded, the workers of the textile mills in the town and nearby Hajipur union went on work abstention.
