The textile industry in the provinces of Punjab and NWFP, have alleged discrimination, vis-à-vis those in the province of Sindh, in the matter of providing uninterrupted electricity and gas supplies.
The sub-sectors of the textile sector have formed a front called the 'Punjab Textile Front' which has charged that, their two provinces have been discriminated by the federal government in providing normal electricity and gas supplies.
This they allege has come about due to the prudent pressure exerted by the industry in Sindh versus the friendly attitude displayed by the textile sector located in the provinces of Punjab and NWFP.
This discriminatory attitude, they claim has resulted in closure of 30 percent of textile mills and 70 percent of powerlooms, leading to a loss in jobs to hundreds of thousands of workers in the two provinces.
They have warned of strikes and agitations if these supplies were not provided at levels, of those provided to the sector in Sindh.
